How many safeties are enough?

Parent Question: this one comes up constantly among parents this time of year, so we're bringing it to the Recess community. "We have 2 safeties and 8 reaches. Counselor says that's unbalanced. What's a normal mix?" If you've been through this, what would you tell this parent? What worked, what would you do differently? Your experience could save another family a lot of stress.
